“First things first—getting legally married in Japan is all about the paperwork. While you might want to celebrate with a party or ceremony, these are entirely separate from the legal requirements for marriage in Japan.“

まず始めに, 日本とアメリカの婚姻手続きの違いについて説明いたします。日本での法的な婚姻については, 全て書類手続き “ペーパーワーク📚” によるものです。 アメリカ合衆国の方からすると, 母国のように, 結婚式や伝統的な挙式で愛を誓い法的にも結ばれるというのが通常の婚姻手続きである…はず…とお考えになると思うのですが, 日本では, 法的な婚姻手続きとロマンティックな挙式は別々となっているのです ^^; （注：日本では, 役所の方の面前で愛を誓ってもキッスは厳しいっスからね！(〃ω〃)！ご了承くださいね）

The key document you’ll need is called the / 米国籍の方が必要な書類は：

• Single Affidavit / 宣誓供述書

U.S. service members can obtain this Affidavit at a military legal services office. If you’re a civilian U.S. passport holder, you’ll need to visit one of the U.S. Consulates or the Embassy in Japan to get the Affidavit. There are six locations across Japan where you can obtain it. 📄✍️

U.S.サービスメンバー（米国軍関係者/ミリタリー）の方は, 米国軍基地のリーガルオフィスで宣誓供述書を発行してもらえます。一般市民のアメリカ合衆国籍の方は, 駐日アメリカ大使館・領事館へ宣誓供述書についてお問い合わせください。駐日アメリカ大使館・領事館は（東京・札幌・大阪・名古屋・福岡・沖縄）６箇所に所在しています。

In addition to the Affidavit, you’ll need / 宣誓供述書の他に必要なもの

• A passport, birth certificate, or naturalization document. / 有効期間内の米国パスポート, 米国出生証明書 or 米国帰化証明書 等 です。

While your passport usually doesn’t need to be translated into Japanese. All these documents—Affidavit, Birth certificate, or Naturalization document—will be in English, but they must be translated into Japanese.

ほとんどの場合 パスポートは 翻訳不要 とされてますが,　宣誓供述書 や 出生証明書 or 帰化証明書 等には,　和訳文書の添付が必要 とされています。

Once the translations are done, we’ll assist you in completing your marriage application. It’s crucial that this application is only filled out after all your documents have been translated into Japanese. Consistency between the original documents and their translations is key, and having everything done by the same translator helps avoid any potential discrepancies.

市区町村役場へ婚姻届出をされる際に必要な 英文証明書（宣誓供述書や米国出生証明書 等.） を和訳することによって, 婚姻届書の記入も楽になります。 日本語で記入が必要な婚姻届書は, 和訳文書のカタカナ名や内容と一致しなくてはならないため, なるべく同一の翻訳者に書類の翻訳をご依頼いただくことで, 訂正がある際でもスムーズに進められます ^^ b

After completing these steps, you’ll submit your documents to the city office closest to where you’re staying in Japan. If you’re submitting your documents to a town or village office, they might ask for additional documentation, so we recommend consulting with us beforehand to ensure everything goes smoothly.

必要書類の翻訳と婚姻届書の記入が完了しましたら, 市区町村役場へ婚姻の届出をします。（届出をした日=婚姻日）特別な日となる当日に, 追加の書類やその他の翻訳が必要となってしまうなどの不備がないよう, 事前に役所へお問い合わせいただくことでお手続きをスムーズに進められます ^^（状況によっては必要書類が追加となる場合もありますので… °〜°；）

📝《婚姻届記入例》📝

Your marriage certificate will be issued in Japanese. We’ll translate it back into English for you and provide several certified copies so you can report your marriage to the necessary authorities in your home country.

婚姻届が役所で受理されましたら, 婚姻届受理証明書（Konin-Todoke-Juri-Shomeisho=Marriage Certificate）を発行してもらいます。

A4サイズ（350円）は今後の “ お手続用書類 ” として, B4サイズ/上質賞状タイプ（1400円）は “ 記念用 ”として, 両方発行してもらっても良いですね 🌸 ^▽^ 🌸

婚姻届受理証明書は, 米国軍基地やアメリカ合衆国大使館/領事館などへ婚姻報告としてご提出する際は, 英訳文書の添付が必要となります。ヒギンズオフィスでは, その英訳文書を２〜３部（ご提出用とお控え用）作成し, お渡ししております^^
